Canberra visit for Terrigal photographer

Norman Haskell and his family with Federal Member for Robertson Gordon Reid at Parliament House

With entries for the 2024 Robertson Photography Competition now invited, the second-placegetter from last year’s competition has visited Parliament House.

Terrigal resident Norman Haskell and his family were welcomed by Federal Member for Robertson Gordon Reid, who showed them the prize-winning photograph on display in his parliamentary office.

The 2023 Robertson Photography Competition was organised by Reid, with the three winning photographs now on display in Canberra.

“It was a pleasure welcoming Mr Haskell, his wife, and family to Parliament House in Canberra, and providing them with a behind-the-scenes tour of the building” Reid said.

“Norman’s second place photograph is now greeting every visiting guest, which includes Ministers and other special dignitaries.

“The Haskell family were very happy to see Norman’s work on full display and I think it looks absolutely fantastic as well.”

Haskell said visiting Canberra was an exciting prospect for the family.

“It took a few months to plan to take our daughter’s young family at a time when Parliament was sitting as both parents work full-time, and our granddaughters both go to Kincumber Public School,” he said.

“Eventually, we organised a day before the Easter long weekend, rented some accommodation and visited Parliament House.

“Dr Reid welcomed us and took us for a brief tour after which he chatted to us in his office for a short while before he had to go to Question Time.

“We are very appreciative that Dr Reid and his staff took time out and were so friendly and hospitable to make this a special moment to remember for our family and have some photos taken with our grandchildren in his office with my photo, Morning Sun on The Skillion, of our iconic local Central Coast landmark that I took in 2013.”

Last year’s inaugural competition attracted close to 100 entries with even more expected this year.

Vertical or horizontal, large or small, photographs of spectacular landscapes of the Central Coast, specifically of the Robertson electorate, are welcome.

Two winning photographs will be selected, and each will receive a $50 gift voucher.

They will also be displayed in Reid’s parliamentary office in Canberra.

One entry is allowed per person and there are no age limits.

The Robertson Photography Competition will finish at the start of June and entrants must live in the federal electorate of Robertson to participate.

The two winning photographs will be chosen by June 10 and photographers will be notified.
