After hours service for three Coast libraries

Three Central Coast libraries are set to receive a share of $165,000 in funding thanks to the NSW Liberal and Nationals Government’s Public Library Infrastructure Grant program.

Parliamentary Secretary for the Central Coast and Member for Terrigal Adam Crouch said the funding will be used towards the Book Lockers project at the Central Coast Council run libraries.

“The project will provide self-service smart book lockers at (the libraries), enabling users to access collections out of hours,” Crouch said.

Council has welcomed the funding.

“Council’s Library Book Lockers will offer additional points of contact for existing and future library patrons, facilitating secure contactless pick up and the return of library items,” a spokesperson said.

“With built-in 4G connection, the library Book Lockers will be placed within the community to provide a click and collect service 24/7.

“Council is committed to providing library access to all community members who wish to utilise them.

“The Book Locker project will offer particular benefit to those who are unable to visit a library during usual opening hours.”

NSW Minister for the Arts Ben Franklin said 21 local councils across the state will share in $6M in funding for infrastructure projects this year to extend and improve public library buildings, spaces and information technology for local communities.

“Well-resourced libraries contribute to community resilience with quality facilities, great collections and access to the Internet, and we are pleased to help councils to upgrade these critical services,” he said.

“An overall record investment of over $40M will be provided to councils this year in support of libraries, with further increases locked in for next year and beyond.

“This is in addition to the record $165M that the NSW Government has committed for the next four years, ensuring that our libraries can continue to thrive and service their communities.”

The Public Library Infrastructure Grants program is administered by the State Library of NSW on behalf of the Library Council of NSW.

Just a small point, where is the library at The Entrance? Is this a design to save grant money by funding only two branches?

  2. The Entrance library was closed down. Maybe the editor of Central Coast Community News should ensure Terry Collins has fact checked his article. Maybe they are referring to Bateau Bay library.
