Fascinating look at role women played in history

Judith Dunn

Central Coast Family Historical Society will host Sydney historian and author Judith Dunn on May 4 at the Lions Community Hall, East Gosford, at 1pm.

Dunn has held many executive positions on Sydney based historical societies, in particular vice president of Friends of St Patricks Cemetery and councillor of the Royal Australian Historical Society

As an author, Dunn has written a series of five books recording the oldest cemeteries in Australia.

She has received a number of awards including the Australian Centenary Medal and a NSW State Government Award for services to History and Heritage.

Mothers, grandmothers and great great grandmothers are part of each family’s research for many generations past.

During her Central Coast presentation, Dunn will tell the stories of women who did not reach the history books but achieved much in the early days of the colony.

She said most will not know their names, but all led lives obscurely great and showed tremendous resilience when women were thought to be the weaker sex.

An historian for 40 years, Dunn has many stories to share telling about these unknown women pioneers.
