Restoration and upgrade works on the foreshore at both Canton Beach and Umina Beach is now complete.
The Canton Beach foreshore sandstone log restoration works and upgrade included restoring and enhancing the usability of the beach, improving safety, and helping to prevent erosion.
After an east coast low event in March 2022, levels in Tuggerah Lake rose above the top of the existing wall causing erosion and pushing the sandstone logs seaward.
Since the event, the community has been eager to see the restoration of this much loved asset and Central Coast Council has announced the works are now complete with not only repairs but also upgrades to the sandstone wall to help it better withstand future weather events.
The full list of works at Canton Beach included increasing the height of the sandstone stepped log wall along the foreshore to help prevent erosion and subsidence as well as improve access to the beach; new drainage work; sand nourishment and installation of turf along the back of the sandstone wall.
The project was jointly funded by the Australian and NSW governments under the Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements and Central Coast Council.
The Umina Beach foreshore promenade (alongside the surf club) has also been improved to create a more vibrant, sustainable, and enjoyable space for both residents and visitors.
Council recently completed comprehensive landscaping creating a grassed area, additional trees, new outdoor showers and new connecting pathways.
These works have softened the existing landscape and provide a greener space for relaxation and recreation.
This project was funded by local infrastructure contributions charged by Council when new development occurs.
