Coles cutting costs

Readers' forum letters

Forum:

I was intrigued to read your correspondent’s report on Coles in Woy Woy closing its “express” lane (Bring back express checkout, CCN 391).

By the way, Coles has always denied that it was an express lane, and the adjoining tobacco counter has always taken priority (presumably because more profits are made there).

This appears to be a national initiative, as Coles in Wyoming has done exactly the same thing, and now checking out is even slower than before.

Apparently it was done in order to cut costs; I wonder how many staff were sacked as well?
