NSW SES is directing people within low-lying areas around Budgewoi and Tuggerah Lakes to evacuate by 2pm on July 5 as flood waters continue to rise.
Once floodwater passes 1.5 metres on the Long Jetty (The Entrance) gauge at Tuggerah and Budgewoi Lakes, roads will begin to close, the SES warns.
Waters will continue to rise in these areas and may inundate homes.
The areas affected are: The Entrance, Long Jetty, Berkley Vale, Chittaway Bay, Tacoma South, Tacoma, Wyongah, Tuggerawong, Rocky Point, Blue Haven, Budgewoi, Buff Point, Charmhaven, Gorokan, Lake Haven, San Remo, Canton Beach and Toukley.
“Once flood water begins inundating the area road access water, sewerage, power, phones and
internet may be lost,” an SES spokesperson said.
“If you remain in the area you will be trapped and it may be too dangerous for the SES to rescue you.”
Wherever possible, people should go and stay with family or friends, or make other accommodation arrangements.
An evacuation centre has been set up at Diggers at The Entrance, 315 The Entrance Rd.
If you are currently in self-isolation due to COVID-19, contact the Public Health Unit on 1300 066 055 before leaving your location, where possible.
