Usain Bolt, the world’s fastest man and Central Coast Mariner in the making, has questioned the motives of Football Federation Australia (FFA) after he was ordered to undertake drug testing on October 15.
Bolt, who is still trialling with the Mariners and not considered a professional footballer, questioned why the FFA would order him to undergo AntiDoping Australia testing as an unsigned athlete attempting to break into the A-League. Bolt took to Instagram to vent his frustrations in a video. “So guys, I’ve retired from track and field, working to become a footballer, but look at this,” Bolt said in the video as he shows the Anti-Doping Authority test form.
“How am I going to get drug tests today, how? “I am not even a professional footballer yet, seriously,” he said.
Bolt went on to say, after questioning his drug test order, that he was told by someone from the FFA that he was ordered to be tested due to his history of being an elite athlete. Under Australian law, athletes can be selected for testing anywhere and at any time, through both random and targeted selection methods. The Mariners have not yet commented on the drug testing order.
