It is time for Council to reject non-complying applications

Letters forum

[Forum] A developer has submitted a development application which does not comply with Gosford planning controls for street, side or rear setbacks, apparently supported by town planners, Wales and Associates.

Surely it is time for Council to reject, on first reading, any application which does not comply with Council requirements. For any developer to ask for Council to support an amendment of setback requirements because the development “remains compatible with predominant patterns of building and gardens that define the existing and desired character of the local neighbourhood” is outrageous. On whose definition should the desired character of the local neighbourhood be based, the developers or the people of the Peninsula? New development may be encouraged but it must be for the benefit of the community as a whole, not just developers and their associates.
