Too many streets in our local neighbourhoods are littered with rubbish, which does nothing for our local pride, let alone the value of your home, or the potential pollution of our waterways, says Tidy Town’s representative, Mr Mike Doyle.
“Lake Haven has even been called ‘the rubbish capital of Australia,’” he added.
Tidy Towns is a group of volunteers who go out every week picking up other people’s rubbish, and the Central Coast group would love to have some extra hands to help with the task.
The local organiser, Ms Christine Burnham, said, “You can tell how long it takes to eat a KFC or a McDonald’s burger, because that’s where the worst of the rubbish tends to get thrown out of the car window.”
She made this plea to residents: “Don’t be so lazy, and be a bit more responsible, and take your rubbish home.
“For local residents, if you find some rubbish outside of your home, please do your bit and pick it up, and pop it in your rubbish bin.”
The volunteers have already made a significant contribution since starting late last year, collecting on average about four giant-sized bags of rubbish each week from just one small area.
Tidy Towns is an initiative by the Central Coast Council and supported by their Landcare Program.
