Who needs a sleigh?

Santa was swapped to a sidecar for his second visit to the community

A local fire brigade has swapped Santa’s sleigh for a sidecar at its annual three-day Santa run which started on December 10.

The Empire Bay Rural Fire Service visited almost 90 per cent of houses at Empire Bay, St Hubert’s Island and Bensville to bring Christmas cheer to residents.

Santa was originally handing out treats to children from a 1923 Vauxhall, but it broke down with engine failure on the first night.

The run then continued with Santa in a sidecar which was led by two of the brigade’s fire trucks.

Deputy Captain Col Burrow said the brigade has been participating in the Santa Run for almost a decade.

“The community has grown to look forward to the event,” Burrow said.

“Some people now have street parties in the wait for Santa.”

The rural fire service started the run in Bensville and later finished at St Hubert’s Island.
