Lovely footpath abuts horror road

Readers' forum letters

Remember Bourke Rd between Memorial Ave and the roundabout on Barrenjoey Rd?

It used to be a patchwork quilt of potholes and patches.

I drive the Ettalong Esplanade daily and marvel at the great job the Council did on the footpath.

I might have to use it as the section between Bangalow St and Kourung St is reminiscent of the old Bourke Rd before repairs.

Why have a lovely footpath and a horrible road side by side?

The most beautiful drive is unpleasant as you dodge the pothole patchwork quilt there.

I look like a drunk driver as i weave around holes and lumps of tar.

The shockies won’t last long if I keep driving there and it is becoming unsafe for pothole dodgers.

  1. At least you have a footpath. Residents of East Bateau Bay had to build their own bush track so that beach goers in the area had a safe access the beach. Those people previously walked on the paved side of Bateau Bay road before crossing the road to access the beach. However with the huge increase in traffic and its uncontrolled speed they can no longer do so without fear
CCC do not give a fig for residents safety in the area and are content to permit increased traffic volume along a single lane road. Any sense in CCC would remove at least 2 sets of lights in Long Jetty to allow traffic traffic to flow more freely along a designated highway.
