Christian signs on for another year

Christian Theoharous in action

Christian Theoharous has signed a one-year extension with the Central Coast Mariners, keeping him on the Coast until the end of the 2024/25 season.

Theoharous is approaching 12 months at the club, having joined in January 2023 from Western United.

After making his club debut against Wellington Phoenix away in round 13, the dangerous winger solidified his place as an impact sub in the team.

The 24-year-old ultimately featured 17 times in the Isuzu UTE A-League (including three finals matches) and received a grand final winner’s medal after coming on as a late substitute in the Mariners’ historic Championship win.

He has been an ever-present figure in match day squads this season, his second at the Mariners, featuring in seven of their nine games so far.

Theoharous has also played an important role in helping the club progress from the group stages of the AFC Cup, playing in all six group games.

The winger scored in wins against Bali United and Stallion Laguna, while also claiming the assist for Miguel Di Pizio’s vital equaliser against Terengganu on match day five.

Theoharous said he was eager to continue to work under Mark Jackson and the Mariners coaching staff.

“I am very excited to be able to extend my contract with the club,” he said.

“I am just grateful and want to repay the faith and trust that both the fans and coaching staff have given me.

“This is a great club that is very family oriented, so it is exactly where I want to be.

“It is great to be able to secure my future here for a further 12 months, but my full focus is just on the next match and getting the three points.”

Football Manager Mark Jackson said Theoharous was a high potential player.

“We are delighted to extend Christian’s contract,” he said.

“We feel it’s important to secure our high potential players and we see Christian as one of those players.

“We fully expect him to push on now this season.

“We’ve seen what he can do and now it is about him making his performances consistent.

“We have full belief in his ability to progress as a player with us at the Central Coast Mariners.”
