A driver who allegedly caused a fatal car crash at Kariong in October, then fled the scene without assisting or reporting it, has now been charged following an investigation.
On Thursday, October 26 at about 3.25pm emergency services were called to Woy Woy Rd, Kariong, following reports of a two-vehicle crash.
At the scene, officers from Brisbane Water Police District found a van and utility had collided.
The driver of the van, a 28-year-old man, was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics but died at the scene.
The driver of the utility, a 64-year-old man, was taken to Gosford Hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
A crime scene was established and officers attached to the Crash Investigation Unit launched an investigation into the incident.
Following inquiries police issued a future court attendance notice to a 29-year-old man.
He was charged with negligent driving occasioning death, negligent driving no death or grievous bodily harm, fail to stop and assist after vehicle impact causing death and cause bodily harm by misconduct in charge of motor vehicle.
Police will allege in court that the man was the driver of a sedan that caused the crash and then left the scene without assisting either injured driver or contacting emergency services.
He was granted bail to appear before Gosford Local Court on Monday, January 29, 2024.
