Woolworths backs Variety

A little bit of spare change can make a difference in children's lives

Woolworths customers across the Central Coast will have the chance to donate to children’s charity Variety for the rest of the month in the supermarket’s annual Small Change Appeal.

During October, customers will have the option to round-up their shop at self-checkouts or purchase a $2 Appeal token at serviced checkouts.

All of the funds will be donated to Variety to help bolster its Sunshine Coach program, which provides transport for sick, disabled and disadvantaged children to access their community and experience a range of special programs and activities they would otherwise be unable to attend.

Group Manager for Woolworths supermarkets across the Central Coast Belinda Page said Woolworths had partnered with Variety across NSW for many years as they worked to support children in need.

“A big part of this for the Central Coast community has been the annual Small Change Appeal, with generous donations from customers and team members delivering a huge impact to the organisation,” she said.

“Our local customers have continued to rally behind the appeal each year, which has been great to see.”

Small Change donations from customers across the state have amounted to a milestone $15M in funds for the charity.

Variety NSW/ACT CEO Tony Warner said donations would allow the organisation to provide additional support for children in need across NSW and the ACT.

“The generosity of Woolworths customers donating their small change … can have an enormous impact on the lives of the children and families that we support.”

For 47 years Variety has been helping to give children who are sick, experiencing disadvantage or living with a disability a fair go in life.

They give children the mobility to get out and about in the community, to communicate, achieve independence and increase their self-esteem.
