Almost $3,000 raised at a fundraising event by the Gosford City-East Gosford Lions Club will go towards cancer research to be conducted on the Central Coast.

President Vic Alce said the club regularly supported the Crestani Scholarship foundation, a registered charity founded by Yvonne Crestani and managed by volunteers.

The foundation’s aim is for better outcomes for cancer patients by funding education to advance skills and techniques in cancer treatment.

Crestani said more recently the foundation had expanded and was looking to help fund research into cancer conducted by the Central Coast Clinical School and Research Institute.

“With the facilities we have here now on the Central Coast, we are able to introduce research into different types of cancer,” Crestani said.

“The donation from the Lions Club will go towards the first steps.”

Alce said all funds from the club’s fundraising events go fully to charity.
