Woman charged over fatal crash at Budgewoi

A woman has been charged following an investigation into a fatal crash earlier this month at Budgewoi.

Just after 11am on Wednesday, April 12, emergency services were called to Budgewoi Rd, Budgewoi, following reports of a crash between a Volkswagen Golf and Toyota Corolla.

Despite the efforts of NSW Ambulance paramedics, the passenger of the Toyota – an 81-year-old woman – died at the scene.

The driver of the Volkswagen, a 44-year-old woman, and the driver of the Toyota, a 62-year-old woman, were taken to John Hunter Hospital, both in a serious condition.

Officers from Tuggerah Lakes Police District established a crime scene which was later examined by specialist police from the Crash Investigation Unit.

After being released from hospital on Friday, April 21, the younger woman was arrested by police and taken to Waratah Police Station where she was charged with dangerous driving occasioning death-drive manner dangerous and negligent driving (occasioning death).

She was refused bail to appear at Newcastle Local Court and her licence has been suspended.
