Training exercise in bus crash simulation

Emergency services test their response in training exercise

Multiple emergency services took part in a combined training exercise at Central Coast Airport last Thursday, April 6, to practise their responses to a bus rollover with mass casualties.

Emergency service agencies worked together throughout the scenario to provide communications, support, rescue, extraction, first aid, casualty triage, fire protection and transport.

Patients on the scene were taken to the triage area for treatment by paramedics, doctors and nurses before being transported to hospital.

The purpose of the multi-agency exercise was to experience working together during a large-scale emergency in the field and to give health professionals practice in treating outside of the emergency room.

Emergency services participating included police from Tuggerah Lakes and Brisbane Water Districts, Warnervale Rural Fire Service, Central Coast Rescue Squad – VRA Rescue, Fire and Rescue teams, NSW Health, Ambulance paramedics, Central Coast Aero Club, Central Coast Council, Rural Fire Service Central Coast Communications Brigade and The Salvation Army Strategic Emergency and Disaster Management.
