The month of April involved many sporting achievements for our local athletes and clubs in a wide variety of codes. Here is a closer look at some of the month’s greatest highlights.
1. Over the Easter long weekend, Gosford Sailing Club hosted the Australian 13ft and 16ft Skiff Championships, for the first time in over 40 years. The event came as something of a prelude to the club’s 90th year birthday that is right around the corner. Over April, I took the chance to look into the club’s history and learn about the archiving process they are now beginning to collate this history into a single, online source.
2. Tascott local, Nicola McDermott, became the first Australian woman to jump 2 metres in High Jump. Before the Central Coast Mariners game against Brisbane Roar, Nicola spoke with us on her journey to reaching this new height and her preparation for the upcoming Tokyo Olympics.
3. The Peninsula Floorball Club play league games at the Peninsula Leisure Centre on Tuesday evenings. In April, I took the opportunity to attend one of their match days and learn what I could about the relatively unknown sport.
