Extraordinary Council meeting to discuss LSPS

Gosford Council Chambers sale will add to council's cash.

Councillors are meeting this Saturday June 13 to workshop next year’s budget and to discuss the changes needed to the Local Strategic Planning Statement (LSPS) which has just been on public exhibition.

The Planning Statement needs to be submitted to the State Government by July 1 and the budget also needs to be finalised soon as it takes effect from July 1.

The councillors accepted a raft of changes to the planning statement at the June 9 meeting after Deputy Mayor Jane Smith put forward an urgency motion saying staff needed as much notice as possible to amend the document before the deadline.

Council had previously failed to get a year’s extension from the State Government.

Cr Smith answered criticism from her colleagues about the raft of changes saying she respectfully suggested they direct their frustration at the State Government for denying them the extension of time.

Her amendments included changing Terrigal from “Town Centre” to “Local Centre” and amend the priorities to delete “Increased residential densities as part of the mixed use centre providing housing options.” and deleting “A 24-hour Main Street destination for locals and visitors”.

Cr Smith also added a new category for the Centres Hierarchy “Villages” including the descriptors; protect unique characteristics of these areas including natural areas and character and support local business sustainable and retain the existing amenity.

The NSW Government LSPS Guideline for Councils states that they will set a 20-year vision for land use in the local area, describe the special characteristics which contribute to local identity; the shared community values to be maintained and enhanced and how growth and change will be managed into the future.
