Narara Eco Village’s next Village Open Day will be held on Saturday, September 29.
Village Open Days are a way for eco-conscious people to learn more about the principles of Narara Eco Living Network, and to participate in a range of activities and programs centred on sustainable living, facilitated by key players and entrepreneurs in the eco sector.
The September Village Open Day commences from 10:30am with a presentation on Greeny Flats by, Andy Lemann. Greeny Flats are being heralded as the most sustainably driven affordable housing solution. “Lemann is a Sustainable Building Consultant with a degree in architecture and many years of building experience. “He is passionate about helping people reach decisions about affordable housing that is low-maintenance, water-conserving, fire resistant, elderly friendly, healthy, recyclable, with a small footprint,” said Narara Ecovillage Founder, Lyndall Parris.
Following Lemann’s presentation, Parris will present a welcome to the village talk with fellow villager, Stephanie Yank, from 11:30am. The presentation will cover the goals, ideology and history of the Narara Ecovillage. From 12:15pm, a Bodhi Farm Farmers of Enlightenment presentation will be held by University of Sydney Associate Professor, Lee Stickells. A House Plan Showcase is then planned for 1pm. Plan Showcases are a much loved part of Village Open Day agendas, as they allow villagers to share their ideas and designs with one another. Village tours will also be returning for this Open Day, with guided tours available from 2:15pm. The day will conclude at 3pm with Permaculture Designer and Environmental Activist, Emet Degirmenci’s, Food Justice Presentation.
Degirmenci’s presentation focuses on empowerment through food sovereignty and social-ecological principles for community building. Other activities returning on the day include the Village Market, which will operate from 1pm to 4pm, and features a mix of quality local produce, handmade items and plants from the village nursery. Construction Workshops will also be running all day from the Village Camp Kitchen, from 11am.
