Central Coast Council has tasked one of Australia’s most celebrated artists with ensuring the success of its inaugural street art event, Chalk the Walk, when it comes to Waterfront Plaza, The Entrance, in October.
Anton Pulvirenti is a man of many talents, drawing, painting, 3D illusions, murals, live art and cartoons, and he is a Doctor of Philosophy
Pulvirenti has been brought on by Council as Chalk the Walk’s Principal Artist, and he’s also been tasked with leading the Chalk the Walk preparation workshop, which will see him lend his expertise to the 20 or so artists who sign on to the event in the coming weeks.
Pulvirenti is a past Champion Pavement Artist of Sydney’s Chalk Urban Art Festival, and has represented Australia in the world’s original and most prestigious street painting festival, Incontro Nazionale dei Madonnari.
His time in Italy was chronicled in the 2014 SBS documentary CHALK: An Australian Perspective.
Some of Pulvirenti’s other career highlights include being a feature artist in Doha’s, Qatar Marine Festival, working on a series of murals for American rapper, Snoop Dogg, and working and teaching perspective and landscape drawing through the University of NSW.
Council is currently seeking up to 20 artists to sign on for the inaugural Chalk the Walk.
Participating artists will get to attend a two hour street/chalk art workshop with Pulvirenti on October 4, with artists descending on Waterfront Plaza to create their masterworks on October 6.
Artist applications must be made to Council by Monday, September 24.
