Clear blue skies, warm sun, a passing parade of whales, a full and diverse programme, including the Opening Night ceremony, and stunning exhibitions by local artists, were all highlights of the 2018 5 Lands Walk, which attracted a record 23,000 participants.
A special guest participant this year was the NSW Premier, Ms Gladys Berejiklian, who announced a NSW Government grant of $4.6m towards phase two of the construction of the Winney Bay Clifftop Walk, part of the ongoing development of the permanent pathway which will enable visitors and locals to walk the 10km trek from MacMasters Beach to Terrigal via Copacabana, Avoca Beach and North Avoca, any day of the year. Beyond its scenic attraction, the economic value of the project to the Central Coast is estimated to exceed $4.8m, attracting 50, 000 additional visitors and creating 67 new full time jobs.
“Already established as a major calendar event, the 5 Lands Walk is going from strength to strength. “This year’s event was the best ever,” said 5 Lands Walk Committee President, Mr Con Ryan. “My thanks go to the many thousands of Coasties and friends who participated, the army of over 700 volunteers, and the generosity of sponsors who made the event possible,” Mr Ryan concluded.
