The Community Gallery and Studio 2 at the Gosford Regional Gallery and Arts Centre will be showcasing the annual Central Coast Art Society’s Summer Exhibition and Awards, with the official opening on Friday, January 19.
The exhibition will be formally opened by Ms Leisl Tesch, Member for Gosford.
The featured artist this year is Ms Sam Blanks.
Ms Blanks is a local artist who has completed a Bachelor of Natural History Illustration with Honours at the University of Newcastle.
Ms Blanks favours carbon dust, pen and ink, pencil, digital illustration, and alternative photography techniques.
Ms Blanks’ work has been shown locally and regionally.
Her passion is nature, but her obsession is palaeontology, and she also enjoys entomology and botany.
The intricate detail of each piece is reflective of the hours of research put in by the artist.
Being part of the Art Society for the past three years has opened many opportunities to Ms Blanks, including exhibitions, workshops, paint out days, and informative talks.
This has allowed her own techniques and ideas to evolve and grow.
The raffle prize is a botanical illustration of a Lady Fingers Orchid or White Fingers Orchid, which is a terrestrial orchid found locally.
Ms Blanks drew this artwork after finding this native orchid during one of her many bush walks on the Central Coast and Newcastle.
Ms Blanks will be submitting an artwork in each category because she favours different techniques.
The Summer Exhibition showcases the work of members of the Central Coast Art Society, both professional and amateur who are well recognised for the high quality and standard of their exhibitions.
