Results from the first ever Central Coast wide council elections have been confirmed by the Electoral Commission NSW on Friday 15 at 3.09pm.
Labor has gained 6 councillors over the five wards while the Liberal party has been held to 4 councillors and 5 independents of various backgrounds.
Budgewoi ward; VINCENT Doug (Labor), HOGAN Jillian (Labor), BEST Greg (Ind)
Wyong ward; MacGREGOR Kyle (Labor), GREENAWAY Louise (Ind), BURKE Chris (Liberal)
The Entrance ward; MATTHEWS Lisa (Labor), PILON Jilly (Liberal), McLACHLAN Bruce (Ind)
Gosford West ward; MEHRTENS Richard (Labor), MARQUART Troy (Liberal), HOLSTEIN Chris (Ind)
Gosford East ward; GALE COLLINS Rebecca (Liberal), SUNDSTROM Jeff (Labor), SMITH Jane (Ind)
This equates to a nominally progressive council majority assuming the two New Independents Jane Smith & Louise Greenaway side with Labor on the main decisions. The most pressing decision will be the selection of Mayor and Deputy Mayor for the first 2 years. The negotiations have begun with several councillors interested in the positions. The vote among the councillors for these positions will occur on Friday Sept 22.
Central Coast Community News interviewed 5 of the candidates today in their Gosford offices on Friday prior to the offical full final results as part of a new video news initiative.
