Central Coast Mariners are hoping that a different line up will bring them three points against the tough New Zealand team.
“Wellington away is always going to be tough, they win battles at the best of times and they’re a very resilient team. They’ve got good quality going forward in the likes of Bonevacia and McGlinchey so we’re under no illusions that the task is enormous,” Walmsley said.
The team will be without captain Nick Montgomery, out due to a red card as well as Harry Ashcroft. The team will need to find new sources of strength. They’ll be hoping that new recruit Luis Garcia helps plug the leadership hole. Combined with the rising form of Fabio Ferreira, who played up another gear in recent matches.
Coach Tony Warmsley commented that Luis Garcia produces moments of absolute sublime quality at every training session that in a game, is a goal for us. He’s not too far away from starting for us he said.
The game kicks off at 5.15pm AEST this evening in Christchurch, a new ground for the A-League and an unexpected advantage for the Mariners in that the ground will be unknown to both teams.
