[Tuggerah] Fourteen schools across the Dobell electorate will receive a share of $200,000 under the Local Schools Community Fund.
Federal Member for Dobell, Emma McBride, announced the funding on January 29.
She was delighted to inform the schools that they will be kickstarting their 2020 with federal project funding.
“Under the Local Schools Community Fund, I am proud to contribute $200,000 to local schools for playground improvements, new and upgraded learning spaces, and other essential projects,” McBride said.
The proposals were assessed by a grants panel who met to support projects of greatest value to school children and the local community.
A mix of government, private and special purpose primary and high schools will benefit from the funding, with a breakdown of the school, the funds to be received and their intended projects below.
Kanwal Public School will receive $20,000 for its NEXUS Project to create a new learning space for STEM and creative arts at the school.
The project will provide a dedicated learning space for creative arts and digital technologies, including new technology to deliver the national STEM School Education Strategy.
The Entrance Public School will receive $20,000 to replace school bubblers with hydration stations for drinking water and refilling water bottles.
Toukley Public School will receive $20,000 for school hall upgrades.
Mackillop College at Warnervale will receive $20,000 for an iLab, a maker space for innovation, ideas, investigation skills and imagination.
St Cecilia’s Catholic Primary School, Wyong, will receive $19,210 for a shade sail over the K-2 playground sandpit and to resurface the basketball court in the Years 3-6 playground.
“Wyong High School will receive $18,054 for playground and sporting equipment for PDHPE courses.
Gorokan Public School will receive $15,000 to upgrade its playground.
Chittaway Bay Public School will receive $10,000 for a shade sail for its outdoor play spaces.
Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic Primary School, Shelly Beach, will receive a $10,000 grant for new playground markings in the courtyard and main playground.
Gorokan High School will receive $10,000 for an in-school landscaping project to upskill students and improve its gardens.
McBride said smaller, undisclosed funding amounts were also awarded to the DALE Young Parents’ School at Wyong, Lisarow Public School, the Youth Off the Streets Lakes College at Blue Haven and Tacoma Public School.
“One of the most important things we can do as a community is to give every child the best start,” McBride said.
