The best young male cricketers from regional NSW are on the Central Coast this week for the McDonald’s Country Colts competition.
Running from Tuesday, September 30 to Friday, October 3, the tournament will feature a mix of 50-over and T20 cricket.
Performances will be closely watched by selectors, with strong showings able to lead to spots in the NSW Country Under-19 side for the national championships.
Games will be played at the Central Coast Regional Sporting and Recreation Complex at Tuggerah, a facility with four side-by-side grounds that promise plenty of high-quality cricket action.
Cricket NSW Deputy Chair of Country Cricket, Michael Erdeljac, said the event was a key part of the pathway for young players.
“This is where country talent really gets to shine,” he said.
“All eight zones in one place, chasing the shield and spots in the NSW Country Under-19 side – it doesn’t get much more exciting than this.
“These boys are playing for pride, opportunity, and a chance to take their game to the next level.
“Just look at Jake Scott – he was on these grounds last year, and now he’s a NSW contracted player.
“That’s the pathway in action.
“A huge thanks to Central Coast Cricket, the incredible ground staff led by Paul Deaves, and McDonald’s for supporting the future stars of country cricket.”
All matches will be live streamed, with links available on the Country Cricket Facebook page each match day.
