They advise that when accepting a bank note, people should ensure that it is not counterfeit.
The Reserve Bank of Australia provides a number of resources to assist with identifying counterfeit notes.

Police say it is an offence to knowingly possess counterfeit banknotes and if anyone suspects having a counterfeit note, they should hand it in to local police.
“You are well within your rights to refuse to accept a banknote if you hold concerns about it,” a police spokesperson said.
