Resolution of legal dispute sees wharf reopen to public

Central Coast Council to undertake urgent repair work to Azzurro Blu Wharf

A long and protracted legal dispute between former lessees of the Azzurro Blu Wharf at The Entrance and Central Coast Council has been settled.

The boardwalk and parts of the Council-owned building have been closed off to the public for some time.

Council has been involved in a long-running dispute with the former lessee of the site which involved protracted action in the Supreme Court.

The consequence of the dispute, which Council said was instigated by the then lessee, was to deny Council access to undertake urgent repairs to the site or the boardwalk.

Following inquires from Member for The Entrance David Mehan, Council has advised it has taken back possession of the Azzurro Blu complex and now has access to the public boardwalk.

David Mehan is looking forward to seeing some improvements

A Council spokesperson said that as a matter of urgency Council would undertake critical maintenance to ensure the complex was secure from unauthorised entry and that the risk of future deterioration to the building was mitigated.

“I am looking forward to seeing some improvements down here, sooner rather than later,” Mehan said.

In a statement to Mehan, the Council spokesperson said the condition of the complex at the time of handback in late June was “poor”.

He said Council was taking immediate action to improve the visual experience for visitors and residents when approaching the boardwalk.

He said he expected the current construction hoarding, which blocked access to almost the entirety of the boardwalk, would be moved and access to the stairs that go down to the water’s edge would be reinstated.

Hoarding at the eastern edge of the complex will also be relocated so part of the boardwalk proper is opened to the public.

  1. David mehan is worried about the visual experience at boardwalk, what about the disgraceful visual view for residents and visitors walking down the main road. Nothing but empty baren shop fronts.

  2. About time.

  3. one small step. I lived at The Entrance for many years but hadn’t visited for quite some time. I was so shocked by what I saw when on a day trip recently. The main street is dilapidated and soulless. Although the people were friendly and the surrounding environment beautiful, the poor town was a sad faded shadow of its former self. It hurt to see it.

  4. I agree with S Booth. When is council going to do something with the vacant and derelict shops in the main Rd that are so unattractive? Businesses have little chance of making money if there is no visitors.
council is very quick to take rates money but give little in return.

  5. should never have be build

  6. Unfortunately, like the rest of The Entrance and Long Jetty, how about abandoned shops, the poor state of the roads in and around our area, the lack of care given by Council to look after gutters & drains, grassed areas on the sides of the roads? Touted as the beautiful Central Coast,it is anything but.

  7. Need to clean up the rest of The Entrance while they’re at it, that car park at the skatepark is a disgrace and dangerous for children.

  8. What was the dispute over and who won in the Supreme Court?

  9. Good to see something positive happening to our sad looking town.

  10. The Entrance has become the shit hole of the Central Coast but should be paradise. All the land banking. What is everyone waiting for?

  11. So pleased that the residents will be able to enjoy the area. It really let the area down in such disrepair. It is in a prime position.

  12. The whole CBD of The Entrance and it’s immediate surrounds is a disgrace. Empty blocks of land, empty and run down shop, and graffiti. The council has a lot to answer for.

  13. It is truly a disgrace how the entrance looks to the recidents and visitors to the coast other councils up north do a much better job in looking after existing and new projects, also the camping of the homeless people you see only in our area I wonder what our council is doing about all this problems?

  14. yes the entrance is going down empty shop so many homeless people in picnic point reserve well it is called now homeless point reserve every think is free we all should move there no rent power bill rates it would be great

l agree with s booth as written above

  16. The boardwalk is the least of the problems in The Entrance. Tackle the disgusting mess that is the carpark at the skate park! My children fished at the wharf last year but it’s absolutely unsafe to let them anywhere near it now. What is the point of having signals stating NO OVERNIGHT PARKING.

  17. Jennifer Collins- where do you want the HOMELESS people to go? What a heartless thing to say. Maybe offer them a room and board in your house before you start judging people for being in poorer circumstances than yourself.
