Intersection delays frustrating locals

The Peninsula Chamber of Commerce has expressed concern over continued delays to the Rawson Rd/Ocean Beach Rd intersection.

“Whilst the Chamber is relieved that the Federal Funding has now been locked in with Central Coast Council, we are concerned that Council has only recently issued a selective tender for the redesign of the intersection with design contracts unlikely to be awarded before October this year,” Chamber President Matthew Wales said.

“Frustratingly, it has been nearly five years since the initial design process was commenced by Council with the Chamber constantly being reassured that design development and community consultation was proceeding.

“You can understand the business community’s frustration when we are advised yet again that the intersection is being redesigned with yet another community consultation process to follow.

“We should not forget that Council has still to go out to tender for construction once the redesign and consultation has been finalised.”

Wales said he would be surprised if the actual works on the intersection commenced before Christmas next year.

“Also of concern is the continual rise in construction costs and materials and every delay surely will impact on the final cost of the signalised intersection,” he said.

“We can only hope that the allocated $32M is going to be enough noting that the budget was doubled way back in 2021.

“With the increased pressure on our roads, the Chamber is encouraging Council to move quickly in finalising the design process and putting the project out to tender.”

Wales said it was also concerning that 80% of roads on the Peninsula remain without kerb and gutter, stormwater drainage and usable footpaths.

  1. Central Coast Council is famous for wasting time and money on frivolous activities and tourist attractions instead of delivering basic services. What we want is a Council that gives priority to essential services such as roads, sewage, drainage, garbage and water supply etc facilitated by sound management and grown up behavior in Chambers.

  2. It is obvious work by council is being carried out. We do see the night works on roads and infrastructure and this should be acknowledged. Also I can see side roads in Ettalong and surrounding footpaths have not been planned out and installed. Rain filled driveways and streets with no drains and potholes everywhere. Some newly laid bitumen and new road lines are evident. Who is going to modernise our Central Coast?

  3. when is the concil going to fixed the road along Ettalong foreshore absolutely disgusting no effort has been made to fixed pot holes ask my car

  4. I agree with Kev. This is a tourist destination and deserves a lot more attention. Council should be replaced with people who are not in it for the money and want to develop where they live only.

  5. my biggest concern according to the NRMA is that Pacific Highway thru Wyong is the second most congested road and we still have to put up with both federal and state politicians saying the money is available to upgrade this road -which should have been 10 years ago and NOTHING HAPPENS
what are these lying half wits going to do about this fiasco

  6. it is obvious that Australia takes so long to build anything take a look and see our hard working council. what takes 6 months for most countries takes Australia 12months to do we are such a third world country it’s not funny.

  7. Another photo op for the good Dr Reid (almost didn’t recognise him without his stethoscope) but nothing to show for it as always. Since his mob have been in they have put the brakes on any roadworks and other major infrastucture on the Coast. They have only just re-started the new traffic lights and intersection upgrade at Tumbi Road after pulling the plug on it over 2 years ago – it could’ve been finished by now. Honestly, we are a forgotten area to both the State and Federal Gov’t, despite being the 10th biggest urban centre in Australia!

    • I fully agree with you Archie, we are the most forgotten area in ‘Greater Sydney’ yes we ‘are in Greater Sydney’ but where is all the money for Roads going to, ‘Western Sydney!’
Surely the Central Coast should be allocated ‘some’ Federal and State funding for our Roads?
I’m sorry but I’ve lived on the Central Coast since 1972, and am disgusted to see the state of our Roads.Prevention is better than Cure, but we are not very good at either.
Where is all our money going to?
