The Peninsula Recreation Precinct will come alive on May 31 and June 1 with the signature event of the Words on the Waves Writers’ Festival – The Dip.
The program takes place in a festival marquee set up in the precinct and features a bounty of short-form author talks on Saturday, May 31, and a free Family Fun Day on Sunday, June 1.
Authors talking on May 31 will include: Bob Hawke biographer Blanche d’Alpuget; Ipsos Mackay report founder Hugh Mackay; social commentator Jane Caro; ABC investigative journalist Quentin McDermott; professional funny girl Rosie Waterland; social researcher Rebecca Huntley; and many more.
That evening will see the launch of the inaugural Ebb & Flow Poetry Slam, where verses will take flight from the page and hit the stage.
The unforgettable evening will feature acclaimed poet Maxine Beneba Clarke, whose mesmerising words flow with unstoppable force.
The event will be hosted by local spoken word artist and 3X Australian Poetry Slam finalist Will Small as electric performances showcasing the spectrum of human experiences are brought to the mic.
Poets can sign up from 7.30pm for the 8pm, event for a three-minute slot in which to impress the audience with their piece and compete for the title of Champion.
In true slam style, winners will be judged by the audience.
Come to perform or just soak up the words at this exciting new addition to Words on the Waves.
There will be a licensed pop-up bar on-site.
Only alcohol purchased from the bar at the event may be consumed.
Family Fun Day will be held at the precinct from 9am-2pm on June 1, aimed at fostering literacy and a love of reading in the next generation of readers and writers on the Central Coast.
It will offer a range of events for children and teens along with talks and live illustration demonstrations.
Featured authors will include Mick Elliott, Serena Geddes, Melissa-Jane Fogarty, Apsara Baldovino and many more.
