The anti-airport crowd will never give up.
Helen Gould’s letter ‘We need a wetland masterplan’ (CCN 485) is singing from Community Environment Network’s (CEN) songbook.
This is, and has been, a political issue for years.
It is not about the Porters Creek wetlands, it is about obstructing development of the airport.
Ms Gould should go for a drive down Burnet Rd at Warnervale and see for herself the massive area of bitumen, concrete and metal roofs – and consider the runoff from that busy, dirty, industrial site, right next to the airport.
Where does the water from that site go?
Right into the wetland.
So where were you, Ms Gould, when they were developing Burnet Rd?
The airport is mostly grass.
The proposed relatively clean development will cover a fraction of the grassed area.
She talks about clearance requirements, which refers to obstructions, like trees, power lines and tall buildings – these are not in the wetlands, so which 11ha of wetland to be cleared does she mean?
The airport has been an extremely good environmental neighbour for 50 years, and has caused no damage to the wetlands.
So why keep up this silly nonsense?
