Just after 5pm on Saturday, February 22, Somersby Rural Fire Service flew into action to assist NSW Ambulance paramedics to extract a young patient from a walking track at Somersby Falls.
Crews from NSW Ambulance and Rural Fire Brigades from Lake Munmorah, Mannering Park and Wallarah – who were on their way home from a joint training session at the Fire and Rescue NSW Emergency Services Academy in Sydney – also attended to assist the patient out of the bush.
Rescuers walked about two kilometres into the Somersby Falls walking track, up and down rocks and some small cliffs, to reach the injured walker.
The young male walker was treated for an injured knee but was able to walk out assisted rather than having to be carried out on a stretcher across the rough terrain.
