Member for The Entrance David Mehan has repeated his call for Gosford Library to be saved for community use, saying it would make a perfect youth hub.
“Saving the library is now more important than ever, in view of the Federal Government’s recent funding announcement of $28.3M under the Youth Empowerment Program for community safety on the Central Coast,” Mehan said.
“The Regional Youth Support Service Inc (RYSS) here on the Central Coast is one of the organisations chosen to deliver the program and the library site would be the perfect location to deliver youth services.
“Gosford Library is built, ready to go and is centrally located in the redeveloping Gosford township that is growing right before our eyes.
“For RYSS to utilise Gosford Library as a permanent hub to offer mentorship, engagement and skill building for our young people is a win-win for everyone.”
Mehan said the library is a well-known building in the CBD which would a great facility from which RYSS could continue its good work.
RYSS formerly occupied premises in the site diagonally across from the old library, on which the new regional library is now being constructed.
“RYSS is well established in this space and to be able to offer services to our young people at our very own Gosford Library just makes sense,” Mehan said.
“The library is a perfect space for this funding to be used and we should all be backing it, rather than those few who are earmarking it for demolition.”
