Freemason donation helps save lives

Vital equipment donated to Soldiers Beach Surf Life Saving Club put to good use

Freemasons on the Central Coast (FotCC) raised more than $13,000 for Soldiers Beach Surf Life Saving Club in 2024 which went to purchasing vital equipment for the club.

Soldiers Beach SLSC President Simon Falconer invited FotCC directors Leigh Pollard, David Levesque and Ben Falconer to the club’s Christmas event to see firsthand how their donation was helping the club.

FotCC’s donation purchased vital medical/resuscitation equipment worth $4,905 and $8,398 for training and fitness equipment.

The gym equipment offers a safe space for members to work out, socialise and grow the club’s culture of fitness, support and wellbeing.

Falconer was happy to give the FotCC representatives a guided tour of the club’s facilities which are being refurbished with the help of working bees and local business support.

Later that day, FotCC received an email advising that the donated equipment had been used that very afternoon in the rescue of a 13-year-old girl who had got into difficulties in the water.

The Oxy Viva kit donated by FotCC was used when the girl suffered an anaphyalactic reaction to a bluebottle sting.

The patient drifted in and out of consciousness while waiting for the ambulance, and fortunately the club’s chief training officer Emma Griffiths was on hand to administer high-flow oxygen and provide airway support, with assistance from junior activity co-ordinator, Matt White.

The incident underscored how vital the Oxy Viva kit was in emergency situations.

“Your donation has already played a key role in saving a life, and I am confident it will continue to be an invaluable resource during the upcoming school holidays and well into the future,” Falconer said,

“Thank you again for your generous support—it truly makes a difference.”

Pollard said FotCC’s ongoing financial support of the club was greatly appreciated and of immeasurable value to the club and local community.

“We are extremely proud to be associated with them,” Pollard said.
