Fascinating look at all things mushrooms

Anna Durkin

Australian Plant Society Central Coast member and past presenter Anna Durkin will be guest speaker at the society’s next meeting on Saturday, April 12.

Durkin became interested in mushrooms as a child, eventually being able to pursue her love of fungi with all their colorful, mysterious and intricate designs while working as a bush regenerator.

She became a member of the Sydney Fungal Studies Group, contributing valued information with her study notes and splendid photos.

The group encourages membership and aims to study, educate, preserve and advance the science of mycology, its basic principle being nature conservation.

Durkin continues to inform the group with her articles and vibrant photos through her Fungi Corner section in the society’s monthly newsletter.

She will decconstruct several mushrooms, exploring their structure and anatomy and explaining the mystical function of each part.

She will also talk about the different varieties and their relationship with native plants and ecosystems both beneficial and detrimental.

The meeting will be held at Phillip House, 21 Old Mount Penang Road, Kariong, starting at 2pm.

There is a plant display table at each meeting where members and visitors are encouraged to bring along a cutting of a flowering plant that grows in their home garden.
