P-plater caught 66km/h over the speed limit

Highway Patrol pulls over P-plate driver

Tuggerah Lakes Highway Patrol was parked on the side of Gavenlock Rd, Mardi, attending to other matters at 10.40am on Monday, February 24, when a black Suzuki sedan sped past at an alarming speed.

Using RADAR, the vehicle’s speed was checked at 116km/h in a signposted 50km/h zone.

The vehicle was promptly stopped, and police spoke with the driver, an 18-year-old P1 licence holder from Wyong.

Checks revealed that his provisional licence had been issued just 17 days earlier.

The driver was issued a penalty notice for P1 driver exceed speed limit – over 45km/h’, resulting in immediate licence suspension for six months and confiscation of vehicle registration plates for three months.

Police said that notably, a large ute had exited the side street ahead just moments earlier, crossing the lane the offending vehicle was approaching in, which highlighted the serious risks associated with excessive speed.

“This incident serves as a reminder that speeding is not only reckless but also endangers lives,” police said.

“Please slow down and drive responsibly.”
