Speak up now to save library

While the CEO of the Central Coast Council seems to be hell-bent on demolishing the current Gosford library building to apparently replace it with a concrete slab, the new developments in Gosford CBD are growing like topsy.

I have no problem with the new developments, as long as they are well designed, fully occupied and thriving, and include a portion of low-cost housing.

However, the attitude that redevelopment of the CBD has to be out with the old and in with the new is appalling.

We should be able to showcase both old and new, but we have very few worthy older buildings to showcase.

What might be at the top of that list of older buildings, the Gosford library building, is facing unwanted destruction.

The building should be maintained to sit proudly within the redeveloped city centre.

What other building do we have to represent yesteryear?

I call on all newly elected councillors to stand against this destruction, and I call on our local state and f federal MPs to join them in actively saving this building.

There are countless uses it could provide for the community.

Now is the time for us all to speak up.

There is no point crying after the demolition.
