Search for missing teen scaled back

The search for a teenage boy last seen in the water off North Avoca beach on Christmas Eve will now enter a recovery stage.

At about 3pm on Tuesday, December 24, emergency services commenced a large-scale search operation following reports a 15-year-old teenage boy was missing in the water.

Searching resumed on Christmas Day, but the missing swimmer was unable to be located.

The search has involved officers attached to Brisbane Water Police District, along with the assistance from the Marine Area Command, NSW Ambulance, Surf Life Saving NSW, Central Coast Council Lifeguards and the Westpac Rescue Helicopter.

Following expert advice, commencing at 6am on Thursday, December 26,  the operation moved into a recovery phase with resources being scaled back.
