The newest signing for the Central Coast Mariners’ women’s team is former Young Matilda Greta Kraszula.
Arriving on the Central Coast after an almost four-year stint in the American College system with Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU), the midfielder returns to Australia after signing her first A-League deal.
A former member of the Football NSW Institute, the 22-year-old opted to leave Australia in 2020 and enrol at VCU, having previously been a part of the Future Matildas Program.
While in the USA, Kraszula was selected for the Young Matildas in the 2022 FIFA U20’s World Cup, being a part of the 21-player squad that travelled to Costa Rica.
She featured against eventual champions Spain in Australia’s final group stage match, playing alongside her new Mariners teammate Jessika Nash.
Following her final two years of college football, during which she started all but two of the University’s 35 games, Kraszula is excited for her first taste of Ninja A-League football.
“I’ve been on the Coast for a couple of days now and it honestly already feels like I am part of the Mariners family.
“I can’t wait to get started, put on the yellow and navy jersey and to see what this season brings.”
Head Coach Emily Husband said the new recruit would bring invaluable experience and technical qualities after being in a full-time program.
“We see Greta as a great ball winning midfielder who also has that versatility that we look for,” Husband said.
“She can play both in the backline and the midfield which allows us to be flexible; it is really exciting to have her on the team.”
The Mariners play Perth Glory at HBF Park on December 27 and Melbourne City at home on December 31.
