Gosford’s own Origami Folding Light and Sound Festival has been named a finalist in the 2024 Business NSW Awards under the Visitor Economy Category, which recognises innovative projects undertaken in NSW across the past 12 months.

Festival Acting General Manager Juan Iocco said the recognition saw the Central Coast’s vibrant experimental arts festival take on major Sydney contender Luna Park’s Sydney in the Dark program and showcased how Gosford was redefining cultural tourism on its own terms.

The Origami Folding Light and Sound Festival pushes the boundaries of a traditional festival with its bold blend of live music, performance art, projection and immersive light displays, all set against the natural beauty of the Central Coast.

This year, Origami expanded its capacity by 30 per cent, marking the largest event held at the Edogawa Japanese Garden and drawing visitors from near and far.

“The success of Origami is powered by a passionate team committed to creating unique experiences that challenge perceptions of what the Central Coast can deliver creatively,” Iocco said.

“The experimental festival has sold out two years in a row, highlighting the community’s excitement for original, locally grown events that uplift Gosford’s profile on the cultural map.

“We’re honoured for the Origami Festival to be recognised at a statewide level.”

Festival Director Glitta Supernova said the acknowledgment shone a light on Gosford’s cultural resurgence and vibrant future.

“Our team has worked tirelessly to develop something original and fresh, a standout that makes you want to come and see and also reflects the unique spirit of Gosford while celebrating experimental artforms and be taken into a wonderland,” she said.

The festival team will head to Sydney on October 30 for the awards ceremony and announcement of winners.
