Now’s the time to adopt a dog

Nash and his mates need loving homes

To celebrate International Dog Day, RSPCA NSW has waived the adoption costs for dogs and puppies until September 15 at its Somersby Behaviour and Rehabilitation Centre (BARC) facility.

Until September 14, prospective owners will not be required to pay the standard adoption fee when adopting dog or puppy from the facility, or any of the RSPCA shelters across NSW.

New owners will also receive a complimentary care package.

Each care package includes a 12-month RSPCA veterinary care voucher, a one-month supply of Advocate Flea and Tick prevention, canine food from Royal Canin and a surprise gift of either a dog toy from Kazoo Pet, a stylish lead from DOGUE or a collapsible water bowl from Pablo & Co Boutique.

“Dogs add so much value to your life, they really do make the best companions’,” BARC Behaviour Trainer Cass Small said.

“Though we love all our residents dearly, the right place for them is in a space they can call their own.

“We hope that this helps them find that loving home much sooner.”

One pup hoping to find his forever home sooner rather than later is one-year-old Nash.

Nash came into care through no fault of his own and, since undergoing surgery, has been working with the team at BARC to build his confidence and learn how to navigate the world on three-legs.

“Nash is just the best dog ever,” Small said.

“He may be missing a leg, but you would never know it.

“He is such a charming boy who loves going for bush walks and afternoon runs in the paddock, as well as getting some pats while lying in the sunshine with a delicious ice block, which is his favourite thing to do.

“Nash would suit a quiet home with a yard and no other animals.

“An owner who is patient and willing to guide Nash through his transition into home life would be a perfect match for him.”

Although adoption costs are waived, normal adoption procedures still apply.

This ensures every dog is matched with the right family that understands its needs.
