Labor candidates in the September 14 Central Coast Council election have pledged to preserve C2 high-value conservation land.

Budgewoi Labor candidate Joy Cooper said land zoned C2 was important for the region’s biodiversity and future amenity.

“C2 conservation land is often found on our ridgelines, in our valleys, and as wetlands,” she said.

“This land is critical to the region’s current and future biodiversity.

“Unnecessary loss of C2 land through rezoning and clearing will result in regional flora and fauna extinctions by 2070.”

Cooper said the Labor candidates had made the following pledge: “If elected, we will do everything in our power to protect C2 conservation land and educate the community about its environmental value and community benefits”.

“We will ensure that no C2 conservation land is rezoned without thorough investigation, justification, and exhaustion of all other options.

“Additionally, we will advocate for the full use of land already zoned for residential and employment purposes.”

Cooper said the candidates were dedicated to protecting the Central Coast’s natural environment for generations to come.
