Sarah Ryan will head a three-person ticket for the Animal Justice Party (AJP) in The Entrance ward at the September 14 Council election.
“Seven years ago, I made the move to the Central Coast to serve as a paramedic, and I quickly fell in love with both the region and its vibrant community,” she said.
“Since then, I’ve earned my credentials as a registered nurse and now proudly serve in both roles.
“My experience has given me the privilege of engaging with people in their homes, and often during their greatest times of need, which has provided me with a deep understanding of our community’s challenges and needs.”
Ryan said she was fiercely committed to preserving the natural beauty of the region for future generations and would advocate for the protection of oceans, native bushland and animals.
“As an ex-veterinary nurse and a rescue cat owner, I deeply understand the human-animal bond and how critical it is to protect that connection for positive mental health,” she said.
“I will be the voice that keeps animal welfare at the forefront, especially when it comes to crucial issues like voting on the Dogs in Open Space Action Plan, building the new pound facility approved for Mardi and initiating Council-funded desexing programs.”
Ryan said she would continue to support local community groups including those who rescue and rehabilitate wildlife, marine and domestic animals, as well as those supporting the less fortunate people in our community.
As the regional Group Leader for the Central Coast for the AJP, Ryan has been involved in many local campaigns, including the successful efforts to stop the development of a cow feedlot in Mangrove Mountain and a puppy farm at Palm Grove.
She leads the AJP’s state-wide campaign against shark nets and is actively engaged in a number of other environmental and animal focused campaigns.
“I will push for more efficient road maintenance as well as improvements to pedestrian and cycling infrastructure making our roads safer for everyone,” she said.
“Above all, I promise to always vote with integrity and to represent our community’s interests with dedication and transparency.”
Running on the ticket with Ryan are Patrick Murphy and Fardin Pelarek.
You can meet Sarah Ryan this Saturday, August 24, at Long Jetty foreshore from 9.30am-12.30pm.
