A red P-plate driver was in court last Friday, August 2, to face charges over allegedly driving at more than 140km/h over the speed limit .
Police from Tuggerah Lakes Highway Patrol were conducting speed enforcement duties on Hakone Rd, Woongarrah, at about 9.10pm on Thursday, August 1.
A 1999 Toyota Camry was detected which police allege was travelling at 192km/h in a signposted 50km/h residential area with sporting fields.
Police said that notably this incident occurred less than two kilometres from a recent suspected speed-related fatal collision.
The driver of the vehicle, an 18-year-old man, was issued a Future Court Attendance Notice on charges of: drive at a speed dangerous; and P1 driver exceed speed limit over 45Km/h – radar.
Police said that when the man was questioned about his speed he said “I’ve had a rough week at work. I was just blowing off some steam”.
The man’s driver’s licence was suspended on the spot.
The Hamlyn Terrace man will again appear before Wyong Local Court on Monday, September 2.
