Earthquake felt across the Central Coast

Geoscience Australia has reported that Denman, near Muswellbrook, was the location of a significant quake that was felt across many parts of the Central Coast at 12:02 pm on Friday, August 23.

The 5.0 magnitude earthquake, reportedly 10km underground, has been felt across NSW including the Central Coast and Newcastle area.

Measurement stations at Mangrove Dam and Kincumber High School also recorded the quake, though stations as far away as Canberra recorded the activity according to official Geoscience Australia data.

Geoscience Australia reported that Denman in the Hunter Valley was the epicentre of the significant seismic activity.

Coast Community News is monitoring reports of numerous residents feeling the earthquake throughout the Coast.

The site of detection is about 180km northwest of Sydney.

No damage was reported at the time of publishing.
