Free Boomerang Bags at Kincumber

Volunteers make the bags from fabric destined for landfill

Kincumber Boomerang Bags was formed in 2017 with the goal of achieving a plastic-free environment and reducing waste.

“As of this year we’ve made more than 10 000 bags, something we are very proud of,” the spokesperson said.

“We are a small group of 14 women who make bags for the community out of fabrics otherwise destined for landfill,” a spokesperson said.

To promote Plastic Free July, the group will give away free Boomerang Bags from 10am on July 12 at Kincumber Shopping Centre.

“The majority of our bags are donation only or free.

“We do have some ‘bought to support’ bags which helps keep us running as we are a not-for-profit organisation.

“We are looking for businesses where we could place these ‘bought to support’ bags which are only $5.”

The group meets on Tuesdays and Fridays from 10am-1pm and welcomes volunteers (no sewing experience necessary).
