Olyroos defender Lucas Mauragis has signed a three-year deal with the Central Coast Mariners.
The 22-year-old trades Newcastle for the Central Coast.
A fast and skilful left fullback who is strong on the ball, Mauragis has already made 67 A-League appearances following his debut as a teenager in 2020.
After spending two full initial seasons with the Jets, the 22-year-old crossed the ditch for a 12-month loan deal with Wellington, making 20 appearances in yellow and black.
Following that spell, Mauragis is now arguably coming off his best campaign so far, playing a career high 22 times for Newcastle during the 23/24 season, scoring twice and assisting a further three goals.
These strong performances have seen him become a mainstay in Australia’s under-23 men’s squad, having most recently been a part of the nation’s Asian Cup team.
Mariners Head Coach Mark Jackson said he was a brilliant dribbler of the ball who possessed strong crossing abilities.
“We are delighted to have Lucas onboard; he is a player that we identified a long time ago and have been watching,” Jackson said.
“Lucas has huge potential to grow but can also impact the team immediately, and is a young man who wants to learn, get better and embrace everything that we want to do here on the Coast.
“It is a very exciting time for both us and Lucas to have signed him on this deal for the next three seasons.”
Mauragis said he hoped to push limits and surpass expectations.
