Youth Week event a huge success

Young people flocked to the event

Coast Shelter’s free music and entertainment event at The Hive, Erina, as part of Youth Week was a huge success.

Held on Thursday, April 18, the event saw live music from young people, delicious and free food and more than 15 stalls from local support services.

Coast Shelter Regional Youth Services Manager Miriam O’Shea said the event has grown significantly and was now positively impacting more youth on the Central Coast.

“Coast Shelter is passionate about advocating for young people as this is a pivotal time to support them as they navigate their way into adulthood,” she said.

“Early intervention, mentorship and education have the proven ability to make lifelong positive impacts on a young person’s life.

“Coast Shelter hosts this event each year to show young people that we are here for them.

“It is a fantastic opportunity for youth to express their needs and to get involved in the development of community programs.”

Coast Shelter CEO Lee Shearer said it was important to have local services as stallholders at the event.

“It allows Coast Shelter to collaborate with other youth services so that we can offer wraparound support and provide young people with the opportunities they need to succeed,” she said.

Youth Week began as an NSW Government initiative in 1989 and has since grown to be a celebration of young people in every state and territory across the country.
