Prominent Central Coast Mariners player Angel Torres faces charges including rape, assault and stalking.

The 24-year-old Colombian was arrested at a residence in Terrigal on Monday, April 22, in connection with the alleged sexual assault of a 21-year-old woman, as confirmed by NSW Police.

Following his arrest, Torres was transported to Gosford Police Station where he was charged with sexual intercourse without consent, aggravated sexual assault involving deprivation of liberty, two counts of common assault and one count of stalking, according to court documents.

Torres, who began playing for the Mariners this season and has scored 12 goals, was granted conditional bail and is scheduled to appear in Gosford Local Court on May 6.

The A-League’s governing body, the Australian Professional Leagues (APL), stated that Football Australia has implemented a no-fault suspension on Torres.

An APL spokesperson said: “It is crucial to acknowledge that the interim suspension does not constitute a determination of Mr Torres’ guilt or responsibility regarding the charges brought against him.”

The APL also noted that it will maintain cooperation with all pertinent parties and has decided not to make additional comments at this time.

Requests for a statement from the Mariners have been made.
